Irvington HS cross-country teams give good efforts to start season

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Irvington High School cross-country teams enjoyed good efforts to start the season Sept. 7 at Branch Brook Park in Newark.

Boys’ results (1-2 record)

Verona-20, Irvington-43 (loss)

Livingston-19, Irvington-40 (loss)

Irvington-15, Barringer-0 (win)

Girls’ results (2-0)

Irvington-19, University-38 (win)

Irvington-24, Cedar Grove-31 (win)

IHS head coach Marvin Hawkins’ notes: In the win against Barringer, Desmond Marfo placed first with a personal best of 18:22, followed by Wilfrantz Therzy, second; Claudel Saint Clair, third; Peterson Francois, fourth; and Wolf Michel, fifth.

Therzy and Francios are competing in cross-country for the first time.

The girls were led by sophomores Cathiana Jean, Adijat Oyeleke, and Taliyah Hayes, who finished 1-2-3 against University and 2-3-4 against Cedar Grove. Seniors Victory Molokwu and Maxine Hayes placed fifth and sixth.
