Irvington HS football players honored at Jersey Sports Zone banquet; Battle also receives awards

IRVINGTON, NJ — Irvington High School football players Nasir Clerk, Mikai Gbayor, twins Zakee Swann and Zahir Swann and Taiyon Battle recently received awards.

Clerk, a senior defensive back, Gbayor,  a junior linebacker, Zakee Swann, a senior running back and Zahir Swann, a senior wide receiver, were named to  the Jersey Sports Zone all-state team during the Jersey Sports Zone third annual football banquet held at the Delta Hotel in Woodbridge on Dec. 11. Greg Schiano, the new Rutgers University football head coach, was a guest speaker.

Battle, a senior wide receiver/quarterback, is the recipient of the Maxwell Awards New Jersey Mini-Max Award and the National Football Foundation  Essex County Scholar Athlete Award. Both honors consider his performance both on the field and in the classroom.
