IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School varsity football team won its fourth straight game to start the season.
Under rainy conditions, the Blue Knights posted their first shutout as they defeated Nutley HS, 20-0, at the IHS Sports Complex on Friday night, Sept. 30.
Senior quarterback Jyvon “Silky” Brown posted a stellar performance as he passed for 244 yards and a touchdown and ran for 144 yards on 11 carries.
Brown completed 11 of 16 passes.
Senior Alnazir Blackman ran for 127 yards on 17 carries and junior Nim Salaam rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on 15 attempts
After a scoreless first quarter, Brown fired a 50-yard touchdown pass to senior James Ely for a 6-0 lead.
Salaam scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter to make it 12-0.
Senior Chaz Perez ran for a 1-yard touchdown and senior Tymir Lassiter ran for the two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.
Lassiter (14 tackles) and Salaam (12 tackles, two for loss) sparked the Blue Knights’ defense from their linebacking positions. Senior tackle Justin Torain also had eight tackles, two fumble recoveries and one sack and junior defensive back Jason Antwi had six tackles to lead the Blue Knights.
Junior receiver/defensive back Jasiah Provillon had six catches for 127 yards and four tackles and one caused fumble for IHS.
Brown also had four tackles and two pass breakups as a defensive back and junior tackle Carl Napoleon had four tackles and a sack.
Next game: The Blue Knights will visit Millburn on Oct. 7.
