Irvington HS football team defeats Belleville to move to 7-0

IRVINGTON, NJ (updated Monday Oct. 24, 11:44 a.m.) – The Irvington High School varsity football team’s perfect record remained intact with another dominant performance.

Behind quarterback Jyvon “Silky” Brown, the Blue Knights recorded their second shutout of the season with a 48-0 win over Belleville on Friday night at Belleville High School’s Doc Ellis Field/Municipal Stadium in a North Jersey Super Football Conference-Freedom White Division game.

The Blue Knights improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the division. The last time the Blue Knights were 7-0 was in 2008 when they were 9-0. The 2008 team was led by then-senior Josh Evans, who is now playing for the Washington Redskins in the NFL.

In Friday’s win, Brown accounted for six touchdowns – three passing and three rushing. The senior completed 16 of 24 passes for 232 yards, with two touchdown passes to Karon Grey and one to Jasiah Provillon.

Belleville lost its fourth straight to move to 3-5 overall.

The Blue Knights are in second place in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association North Section 1, Group 4 playoff power-points standings with 124 points. Wayne Valley, at 7-1, was in first place with 139 polnts. Wayne Valley can not gain any more power points. The playoffs consist of the top eight teams in the power-point standings based on the first eight games.

The Blue Knights defeated Wayne Valley in their previous game, 52-25, at home in divisional play, handing Wayne Valley its first loss.

The Blue Knights will host Passaic Valley on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. on Homecoming Day in a divisional game. They then will visit Wayne Hills for their final regular-season game on Nov. 4 in a divisional game that could determine the divisional title. Wayne Hills is 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the division. Wayne Hills also is in third  place in the North Section 1, Group 4 power-point standings with 117.

Passaic Valley head coach Chet Parlevecchio was a former Blue Knights head coach.

The playoffs will begin the weekend of Nov. 11-12.
