IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School varsity football team has been reclassified to North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association for the postseason.
Last season, the Blue Knights were moved to Section 1, Group 4 for the first time.
The other schools that have moved to Section 2, Group 4 are Barringer, Ferris, Linden and Orange.
The Blue Knights last season lost to Randolph in the first round of the Section 1, Group 4 state playoffs to finish with an 8-2 record after starting the year at 8-0. In the previous week, IHS fell to Wayne Hills in a regular season game. Wayne Hills won the Section 1, Group 4 state title.
The Blue Knights, under second-year head coach “Smoke” Pierre, began practice Aug. 9. They will kick off the regular season Sept. 8 at home against Lincoln of Jersey.
