NUTLEY, NJ – The Irvington High School varsity football team continued its unbeaten start to the season under first-year head coach Ashley Pierre.
Senior quarterback Jyvon “Silky” Brown passed for 155 yards and two touchdowns and senior Alnazir Blackman rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries to lead the Blue Knights to a 36-23 home win over Barringer on Friday, Sept. 23.
Muadh “Nim” Abdus-Salaam also rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries for the Blue Knights, who improved to 3-0.
Brown completed eight of 13 passes and rushed eight times for 52 yards.
Junior receiver Jasiah Provillon caught three passes for 50 yards and a touchdown and senior receiver James Ely caught a 40-yard TD pass from Brown.
Nelson Gedeon had two catches for 49 yards and fellow senior tight end Tyhmir Lassiter had two catches for 16 yards.
Defensively, Lassiter had six tackles from his linebacking position. Salaam also had eight tackles, including two for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery as a linebacker.
Senior tackle Justin Torian had seven tackles, including ½ sack; and junior end Lance Turay had two sacks.
The Blue Knights will host Nutley on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
