Irvington HS girls basketball team falls to West Orange in ECT as 12-game winning streak ends

IRVINGTON, NJ – The 14th-seeded Irvington High School girls varsity basketball team lost at third-seeded West Orange, 70-35, in the first round (round of 16) of the Essex County Tournament on Feb. 9. The loss ended the Blue Knights’ 12-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-4.

In the previous game, IHS defeated No. 19 seed Millburn, 46-36, Feb. 7 in the preliminary third round of the ECT at home. Briana Lee had 23 points, 14 rebounds, seven steals and four assists; Tiara Mahorn had 12 points, six steals and five assists; and Aniyah Massey had 11 points and 15 rebounds.

IHS defeated Weequahic, 63-22, at home Feb. 5 in a Super Essex Conference-Freedom Division game as Mahorn scored 30 points with eight assists and eight steals; Massey had 18 points and 11 rebounds; Celine Ceasar had eight points with 11 steals, six rebounds and four assists and Herbina Exume had two points with six rebounds.

IHS received the No. 5 seed in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 state tournament that begins Feb. 26.
