IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School girls’ varsity basketball team has a bright future.
The Blue Knights, under head coach Rashawnah French, will return all their players for next season, including three who garnered All-Super Essex Conference -Independence Division honors, as they look to improve from this year’s 7-16 record.
Tiara Mahon, a junior, had a strong season, totalling 357 points for an average of 18.9 points per game to make First Team All-SEC-Independence. Mahorn also grabbed 162 rebounds this season.
Aniyah Massey, a sophomore, had an promising season in her first year. She scored 147 points and collected 107 rebounds to make Second Team on the All-SEC-Independence.
Herbina Exume, a junior, made Honorable Mention All-SEC-Independence in her second year on the team. She was a solid defender and leader on the floor, noted French, who is looking forward to next season.
“We didn’t have any seniors this year so I’m looking forward to the team getting better in the off-season so we can improve for next season and hopefully win more games and place higher in our conference,” French said. “ We had a lot of newcomers this year so with their experience from this year we will have more chemistry on the court so we can produce as a team. “
