Irvington HS girls basketball team win streak reaches 10

IRVINGTON, NJ – Behind the high-scoring senior duo of Briana Lee and Tiara Marhorn, the Irvington High School girls varsity basketball team won four games last week to extend its winning streak to 10 and improve to a 13-3 overall record.

Mahorn had 38 points with eight assists, six rebounds and four steals; and Lee had a quadruple-double with 32 points, 11 rebounds, 11 steals and 10 assists along with three blocks to lead the Blue Knights to an 87-46 win over Montclair on Jan. 28 at Montclair in a Super Essex Conference crossover game. Aniyah Massey had 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Lee had another quadruple-double with 32 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists and 11 steals and Mahorn had 31 points with eight assists, seven steals and five rebounds in the 74-26 win at Newark East Side, Jan. 29, in a SEC-Freedom Division game.

Lee had 23 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals, five assists and four blocks in the 63-40 win over Linden, Jan. 31, in a non-conference game at Linden. Mahorn had 20 points, eight assists, six steals and five rebounds; Massey had 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks; Celine Ceasar had two points with four steals, three rebounds and three assists and Herbina Exume had two points, four rebounds and two blocks.

Lee scored 31 points with seven steals, six assists and five rebounds in the 73-54 win over West Side, Feb. 1, in Newark in a divisional game. Mahorn had 22 points, eight assists, eight steals and five rebounds; and Massey had 14 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. Exume had 10 rebounds and two points; Ceasar had two points and four steals and Rayna Smith had two points.

The Blue Knights hope to make a strong run in the 45rd Essex County Tournament. The 14th-seeded Blue Knights will host the winner of No. 19 Millburn and No. 30 Barringer in the preliminary third round on or by Feb. 7.
