Irvington HS girls’ basketball team wins two in a row

IRVINGTON, NJ – Junior center Aniyah Massey scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Irvington High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a 49-18 home win over St. Vincent Academy on Jan. 14 in a Super Essex Conference-Freedom Division game.

The Blue Knights won their second straight game to improve to a 5-3 overall record and 4-0 in the SEC-Freedom. The two-game win streak followed a three-game losing streak.

Sophomore guard Rayonnah Freeman had 11 points and junior guard Celine Ceasar had nine points, 12 steals and five rebounds. Senior forward Shaquana Lyle had four points, four steals and four assists and Herbina Exume also had four points, two steals and two rebounds.

In earlier action, Massey had 12 points and five rebounds and senior guard Charizma Thomas had five points, three assists and four steals to lead the Blue Knights to a 26-22 home win over University Charter on Jan. 11. Trailing 10-7 at the half, the Blue Knights outscored University Charter, 16-8, in the third quarter to take a 23-18 lead. Ceasar had four points, three assists and three steals for IHS.
