IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School girls’ varsity volleyball team, under head coach Paul Tortorella, has posted competitive efforts.
The Blue Knights split two meetings with Columbia on back-to-back days.
Irvington defeated Columbia in a three-set thriller at home Sept. 25. Irvington won the first set, 27-25. After losing the second set, 25-10, the Blue Knights won the decisive third set, 28-26.
Sol Berrios had eight service points, three digs, three assists and two kills. Rayna Smith had three kills, five service points, two assists and two digs. Saniya West had four assists and five service points.
Columbia was 7-1 before the match. The loss also was Columbia’s first in the Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division.
The next day, the Blue Knights lost at Columbia, 25-16, 25-13. Anthonia Houndode and West each had four assists; and Berrios recorded three digs and two assists.
The Blue Knights moved to a 5-6 record.
Berrios leads team in aces and kills. Smith and Taylor Phillips lead team in service points. Houndode leads team in assists. Shamara Southerland, Herbina Exume, and West also have been key contributors.
