IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School varsity girls’ volleyball team defeated West Side, Oct. 26, at home, to win the Super Essex Conference-Freedom Division championship.
The victory capped an undefeated season in the division. The Blue Knights, under head coach Paul Tortorella, finished 18-0 in the divison. IHS also improved to 18-2 overall on the season. The losses were to Bayonne in a non-conference match and West Caldwell Tech in the Essex County Tournament first preliminary round.
The Blue Knights, seeded 25th, will visit No. 8 seed Montville in the first round of the NJSIAA Group 3 state tournament on Oct. 31. The winner will face either No. 9 seed Morris Knolls or No. 24 seed Jackson Liberty in the second round on Nov. 2.
