Irvington HS indoor track and field teams boast talent this season

IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School indoor track and field teams boast talented athletes looking have a successful season.

The teams, under head coach Marvin Hawkins, will open the season Dec. 16 at the Fairleigh Dickinson University Holiday Invitational.

The boys’ team hopes to break into the top 5 of the county and contend for the North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 state title. The Blue Knights traditionally have excelled in the sprints, hurdles, and jumps.

The team’s leaders who will look to continue that tradtion, are Michael Veltz (sprints, middle distance), Desmond Marfo (distance), Dwight Henry (sprints, hurdles), Keano Fearon (sprints, jumps), Trenton Dundas (sprints, hurdles), Devin Seward (sprints, hurdles, jumps), Brian Fisher (hurdles, jumps), and Wesvendji Jean Charles (hurdles and sprints).

On the girls’ side, Irvington features a young, but talented squad looking to establish itself as one of the top teams in Essex County.

The team will be led by Andrea Jackson (hurdles, sprints, middle distance and jumps), Cathiana Jean (middle distance), Taliyah Hayes (sprints, middle distance, jumps), Adijat Oyeleke (distance), Vicky Molokwu (sprints, hurdles), Joanna Goncalves (hurdles), and Maxine Hayes (hurdles, sprints).
