IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams posted good efforts at the Essex County Relay Championships on Jan. 3 at Ocean Breeze Sports Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
The girls’ team finished sixth in the girls’ team standings, while the boys’ team finished seventh in the boys’ standings.
The girls won the the shuttle hurdles relays event, with Vicky Molokwu, Andrea Jackson, Joanna Gonsalves, and Neissa Villius clocking a combined 26.39. The shuttle hurdles team is ranked No. 25 in the nation.
Villius and Taliyah Hayes combined for the fourth-place medal in the high jump at 8 feet-6 inches.
The sprint medley team of Molokwu, Jackson, Hayes, and Cathiana Jean took the sixth-place medal in 4:44.
On the boys’ side, the shuttle hurdles relay team of Brian Fisher, Trenton Dundas, Widesnly Placius, and Dwight Henry took the third-place medal in 33.28. They are ranked No. 23 in the nation.
The sprint medley team took the fourth-place medal, with Henry, Dundas, Michael Veltz, and Desmond Marfo running 3:43.2.
Veltz, Henry, Devin Seward, and Marfo finished fourth in the 4×400-meter relay in 3:33. The 4×400 qualified for the Penn Relays this spring.
