Irvington HS track and field teams give good efforts at sectional meet

IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams gave good efforts at the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 State Championships at Middletown North HS, May 25-26.

The boys’ team finished in 12th place in the boys’ team standings. The girls’ team finished 16th in the girls’ team standings.

Keano Fearon, a senior, finished second in the 400-meter dash in 49.92 to lead the IHS boys. Senior Tavaughn Whyte placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.36.

Whyte, senior Michael Veltz, Fearon, and sophomore Dwight Henry combined to finish fourth in the 4×100-meter relay in 43.66. Veltz, Fearon, Henry, and freshman Devin Seward took fourth in the 4×400-meter relay in 3:25.21.

On the girls’ side, junior Andrea Jackson finished fourth in 15.68 and senior Vicky Molokwu was sixth in 15.79 in the 100-meter hurdles. Jackson also was fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.37.

The top six finishers in each event will advance to the NJSIAA Group 3 State Championships at Central Regional HS, June 1-2.
