Jacksonsville Jaguars safety Josh Evans getting ready for training camp

IRVINGTON – Josh Evans is getting ready for his fourth season with the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League.

The safety from Irvington has spent his entire career with the Jaguars, who selected him in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida.

The Jaguars will begin training camp July 27 for veterans. The rookies report July 25.

Last season with the Jaguars, Evans played in all 16 games with 12 starts, posting 53 tackles (37 solo and 16 assists). The 6-foot, 210-pound safety also had two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

In 2014, Evans played in all 16 games with 14 stars. He had 90 tackles (62 solo and 28 assists).

In his rookie season in 2013, Evans recorded 58 tackles (47 solo and 11 assists) in 15 games with 11 starts.

Evans was a standout football player for the Irvington High School Blue Knights, playing for then-head coach Darnell Grant.

Evans also was a track star in which he won the 55-meter hurdles and 110 hurdles in the indoor and outdoor Meet of Champions, respectively, in his senior year in 2009.
