James Ely and Da’John Graves lead Irvington HS boys’ track and field at North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 Championships

IRVINGTON – James Ely finished in fourth place in the triple jump and fellow junior Da’John Graves placed sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles to lead the Irvington High School boys’ track and field team at the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 Championships at Ridge HS in Basking Ridge, May 27-28.

Ely leaped 42 feet-4 inches. Graves clocked 15.69.

As a result, the two IHS athletes qualified for the state Group 3 Championships at Northern Burlington Regional HS in Columbus, June 3-4. The top six finishers in each event qualified for the state Group 3 Championships.

Graves also took eighth in the 400 intermediate hurdles in 59.89.

The IHS boys’ 4×100-meter relay team finished in ninth in 45.94.

The IHS girls’ team had good efforts despite not finishing in the top six in any events. The Lady Blue Knights took 14th in the 4×400 in 4:44.43.
