IRVINGTON, NJ — In his second game with the team, junior quarterback Jake Harter passed for four touchdowns, three to Clervil Renaud, to spark the Irvington High School football team past North Bergen, 48-0, Friday, Oct. 11, in North Bergen.
Zahir Swann also scored two touchdowns to lead Irvington, which improved to 4-2 on the season. North Bergen moved to 3-2.
In the first quarter, Harter connected on two TD passes to Renaud. Kenny Kwarteng kicked the extra points for a 14-0 lead.
Swan scored two touchdowns in the second quarter on a five-yard run and a 67-yard pass from Harter. Kwarteng kicked the extra points to make it 28-0 at the half.
Harter threw a 29-yard TD pass to Renaud in the third quarter, followed by Kwarteng’s extra-point kick, and Zalyn Smith had a 25-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Harter joined the team this year after playing at Watchung Hills in his freshman and sophomore seasons. Even though he doesn’t reside in the district, Harter is eligible to play for the Blue Knights per the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association transfer privilege rule because his mother is a teacher at Florence Avenue Elementary School. Harter sat out the first four games of the season due to the transfer rule. His first game was against Bergen Catholic on Oct. 4 in the 42-6 home loss.
Senior Taiyon Battle, who started at quarterback at the beginning of the season, started at wide receiver against North Bergen. Battle is being recruited by colleges as an athlete.
The Blue Knights will host Ferris on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. Ferris defeated Dickinson, 39-33, Saturday, Oct. 12, at Caven Point in Jersey City for its first win of the season to improve to 1-5.
