Columbia HS girls’ track and field team finishes runner-up at County meet

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School girls’ track and field team finished second overall in the girls’ team standings for the second year in a row at the Essex County Championships held at Woodman Field in Montclair, 18-19.

Under rainy conditions, the Cougars had 76 points. Montclair had 102.5 points to win the girls’ team title for the second straight season.

Megan Mosteiro won the pole vault with a leap of 9 feet-6 inches; Celine Egeonu won the high jump at 5-5; and Ayanna Henry won the triple jump at 37-11 ¾ to lead the Cougars.

In the 100-meter dash, Ciara French took second in 12.52 and Lilian Williams was fifth at 12.68. Briana Reckling finished second in the 400-meter dash in 57.81 and third in the 200-meter dash in 26.18. Henry took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.71. Catherine Jordan placed fourth in the high jump at 5-0. Shayla Keegan took third in the discus at 108-11. Brialle Carthen was sixth in the discus at 90-9. Hernann Angerville took fourth in the javelin at 98-0.

On the boys’ side, CHS finished 12th in the team standings. East Orange Campus won the boys’ team title for the fourth straight season.

Jonathan Salinardo took fifth in the 800-meter run in 1:59.86  Luke Hayes was fourth in the high jump at 6-0 and took fifth in the 400 hurdles in 57.12. In the 3,200 meters, David Ives took fourth in 9:56.06 and Tim Depue was sixth in 10:02.57.

The CHS teams will gear up for the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 State Championships at Ridge HS, May 25-26.
