Maplewood to hold parade for Olympian Bronze Medal Winner Ibtihaj Muhammad on Saturday, Sept. 10

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Township of Maplewood is having a celebration on Saturday, Sept. 10, for Olympian Bronze Medal Winner Ibtihaj Muhammad.

It will include a motorcade along Springfield Avenue and a parade through Maplewood Village. The parade will end at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts where Ibtihaj will sign autographs.

Ibtihaj, a Maplewood native and Columbia High School graduate, won a team bronze medal at the Rio Olympics last month while fencing for the U.S. women’s sabre team. She was the first-ever Muslim-American to wear hijab while competing for the U.S. Olympic Team.

The schedule of events is as follows:

• 10:30 a.m., Motorcade leaves NJ Fencing Alliance, 50-58 Burnett Avenue.

• 10:40 a.m., Stop, meet and greet at Hilton Branch of the Maplewood Library.

• 10:55 a.m: Motorcade leaves library; proceed down Springfield Avenue to Prospect Street, to Tuscan Road, to Valley Street, to Baker Street.

• 11:10 a.m.: Stop, meet and greet at the Main Branch of the Maplewood Library.

• 11:30 a.m.: Parade kicks off from library through Maplewood Village.

• 12 p.m. Meet and greet and autograph signing at The Burgdorff Center.
