Jimmy Quinn leads Nutley HS boys’ track and field team at SEC meet

NUTLEY, NJ – Senior Jimmy Quinn repeated as a double gold medalist at the Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division Championships, claiming first place in both the 1,600 (4:34.13) and the 3,200 (10:02.63) to lead the Nutley High School boys’ track and field team on May 12 at Schools Stadium in Newark.

Quinn completed the same double at the 2017 SEC Championships.  Quinn’s 20-point performance lead the Raiders to a third place team finish with 83.5 points.  The Raiders finished behind Newark West Side and Bloomfield. Sophomore Nick Duca won gold in the 800 meters at 2:02.67 and junior Eli Acosta tossed the spear out to 145-4 to claim Nutley’s fourth gold medal of the meet.

The Raiders were able to score all three athletes entered in two events during the meet.  In the 800 meters Nick Duca claimed gold at 2:02.67, while senior Gerard Dimayuga was a very close second at 2:02.92 and rising freshman star Aiden Hamlin claimed the sixth-place medal at 2:07.70.  In the pole vault, the Raiders claimed three medals as well. Junior Dom Raffaelli took third at 9-6, while senior John Hickey tied for fourth at 8-6 and senior Noah Roselli tied for sixth at 8-6.

Also scoring for the Raiders were Nick Duca (4:42.12) in the 1600, finishing third, Sean Bernardo (10:46.38) finishing fifth on the 3,200 meters; Eli Acosta (second at 6-0) and Matt Durham (third at 5-6) in the high jump, Zach Mackiewicz (sixth at 37-5.25 PR), Eli Acosta (fifth at 39-7) in the triple jump, and the 4 x400 relay team of Nieven Urbano, Sean MacDonald, Aiden Hamlin, and Anthony DePersio.

Next up for the Raiders is the Essex County Future Stars Invitational at West Orange High School, where all the freshman and junior varsity runners will wind up their seasons.  The varsity athletes will compete next at the Essex County Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 18-19, at Woodman Field in Montclair.
