No. 1 seed Nutley HS wrestling team to host Governor Livingston in state sectional semifinals

NUTLEY – The Nutley High School varsity wrestling team received the No. 1 seed in the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament.

The Raiders, under first-year head coach Mike DiPiano, received a quarterfinal round bye and were scheduled to host fourth-seeded Governor Livingston in the semifinals on Feb. 10.

Passaic Valley, seeded No. 2, was to host third-seeded Voorhees in the other semifinal.

NHS defeated Passaic Valley, 39-37, in the season opener on Dec. 23 at Passaic Valley in Little Falls.

The championship will be held Feb. 12 at the higher-seeded site.

The Raiders defeated West Orange, 42-33 and Newark Academy, 72-9, both on Feb. 3 at home, and defeated Lyndhurst, 52-20, Feb. 6, to improve to a 14-5 record.

Last season, the Raiders lost to Voorhees, 34-32, in the North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 final.
