Nutley East Little League team enjoys great district tournament run

The Nutley East Little League 12-year-old All-Star baseball team enjoyed a great run in the district tournament.

Nutley East won all four of their pool play games, beating Nutley American, 2-0; Caldwell, 27-0; Ironbound Newark, 18-8; and Ivy Hills, 12-0. 

They advanced to the district finals where they lost to Livingston, 3-2, and 15-9, in a best two out of three.

The kids had a blast playing for manager Anthony Mielnicki, coaches Mike Zitola, Angelo DiTaranto and Anthony Trama. “In a short period of time they learned not just the game of baseball, but how to be a team and play as one, and always respect their opponents. The coaches and I can’t be more proud of these young ball players. These kids overcame a lot of obstacles to even do as well as we did.”
