UPDATE: Nutley HS baseball team continues to surge

NUTLEY – Senior left fielder Nick Miller went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run; senior right fielder Anthony Condito went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a RBI and a run; and freshman shortstop Marty Higgins went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and three runs to lead the Nutley High School varsity baseball team to an 11-1 home win over Newark East Side on April 15.

Sophomore catcher Raul Ortega had a single and two RBI; senior Nick Balitsos had a double and a RBI; and senior third baseman Andrew Santos, senior second baseman Matt Butler, and senior center fielder Andrew Connor each drove in a run.

The Raiders, leading 3-1, scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 10-1. Senior Ryan McGrath fired a four-hit complete game with two strikeouts.

The Raiders then defeated Bayonne 5-4, April 16, in Bayonne. Miller had a tiebreaking RBI single in the top of the seventh inning for the game-winner. Condito went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI and a run; and Santos was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI for the Raiders, who won their third straight and fifth in six games to move to a 5-4 record after starting 0-3.
