NUTLEY – Andrew Santos went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored and Anthony Condito went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored as the third-seeded Nutley High School varsity baseball team defeated 14th-seeded Glen Ridge, 10-2, in the first round of the Greater Newark Tournament on Monday, May 9, at the Park Oval.
Andrew Connor had a homer and two RBI and Raul Ortega went 1-for-2 with two RBI for the Raiders, who won their fifth straight game to improve to a 14-6 record.
The Raiders will host sixth-seeded Newark Academy in the GNT quarterfinals on May 12. The winner will face the winner of No. 10 seed West Orange and No. 2 seed Millburn in the semifinals doubleheader at Belleville High School’s George Zanfini field on May 14. The final is May 21 at Verona High School’s Doc Goeltz Field.
In earlier play, Condito went 3-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and two runs and Santos also homered and drove in three runs to lead the Raiders to a 9-5 win at Jefferson on May 5.
Ortega went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Nick Balitsos went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Connor went 2-for-4 with two runs.
