NUTLEY – Senior right fielder Anthony Condito went 2-for-5 with a homer, two walks and five RBI and freshman shortstop Marty Higgins Higgins went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, a RBI and a run to lead the Nutley High School varsity baseball team to a 10-7 win at Newark Academy on April 9 in Livingston.
It was the second win in as many days for the Raiders, who improved to a 2-3 record.
Senior third baseman Andrew Santos was 2-for-3 with two runs; senior second baseman Matt Butler had one hit, a walk, two runs and senior Nick Miller had two walks and two runs. NHS scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to take an 8-2 lead. Newark Academy scored three in the bottom of the sixth to cut it to 8-5, but Nutley answered with two in the top of the seventh to extend it to 10-5. Newark Academy scored two in the bottom of the seventh, but Nutley held on for the win.
NHS defeated Belleville, 10-3, the previous day, at home.
The Raiders fell to Livingston, 6-3, Monday, April 11, to move to a 2-4 record. Livingston scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead. Livingston added a run in the sixth to make it 6-3. Nutley scored a run in the seventh for the final margin.
