Nutley HS baseball team enjoyed six-game win streak

NUTLEY, NJ – The Nutley High School varsity baseball team lost to Kearny, 6-4, Saturday, April 21, at the Park Oval in a non-conference game.

The loss ended the Raiders’ six-game win streak. Nutley moved to a 7-3 overall record. 

In their previous three games, the Raiders outscored their opponents, 19-1.

Senior Wayne Whittmann had two hits and two RBI and junior Josh O’Neill and sophomore Kevin Hogan each had an RBI for the Raiders.

In the previous day, sophomore Trevor Santos struck out nine over five innings of two-hit ball and also hit a triple and drove in three runs to lead Nutley to a 4-0 home win over Millburn on Friday, April 20, at the Park Oval in a Super Essex Conference-American Division game.

Nutley moved to 6-2 in the division.

Hogan also had a hit and an RBI and Whittmann went 1-for-3.

In earlier action, O’Neill allowed two hits and one walk with five strikeouts in six innings, and had a double and drove in three runs to lead the Raiders to a 10-0 home win over Montclair on April 18 in a division game.

Junior Marty Higgins had a double, homer, three RBI and three runs; senior Dan Caraballo had two hits, an RBI and two runs; senior Pete Lopez had two hits and two runs; Whittmann had two hits and an RBI.

Junior Jon Luberto struck out 11 and allowed one hit and three walks over five innings in the 5-1 win over MKA on April 19 at home in a SEC non-division game. Luberto also had a double and triple at the plate. Higgins had two hits, including a double, one run, and RBI; and Whittmann had an RBI.o
