NUTLEY – Nutley High School bowlers Chris Liloia, his brother, Anthony Liloia, Francesca Lentini and Sayaka Imamura competed in the Essex County Individual Tournament on Feb. 10 at Eagle Rock Lanes in West Orange.
Chris Liloia and Sayaka went on to the step ladder finals. Sayaka was eliminated in Round 1, thereby finishing fifth overall in the Essex County Tournament. Chris also entered as the fifth seed and worked his way all the way to the championship round. Unfortunately he ran out of gas with seven games that afternoon and was defeated by Bobby Critides of Glen Ridge.
NHS head coach George Ackerman was proud of Liloia’s run.
“Number 2 in Essex County is still an amazing accomplishment,” Ackerman said.
The NHS boys competed in the North Jersey Section 2 Tournament on Feb. 11 at Jersey Lanes in Linden, but unfortunately, placed sixth in Group 3 with a total score of 2,408. Chris Liloia led the Raiders with a total series of 584 but fell short of the 674 individual cut-off to advance.
On Feb. 8, both the NHS girls’ and boys’ bowling teams won the ECT team titles at Eagle Rock Lanes.
“Overall our season was a success, and, the rest of the team consists of sophomores and freshmen,” said Ackerman.
