Nutley HS football team falls to West Essex in playoffs to finish season

NUTLEY, NJ – The eighth-seeded Nutley High School varsity football team ended its 2016 season after falling to top-seeded West Essex, 40-0, in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 playoffs on Friday night, Nov. 11, at West Essex in North Caldwell.

The Raiders finished with a 3-7 record. West Essex is 7-3.

It marked the second straight year that the Raiders lost to West Essex, 28-7, in the first round of the Section 2, Group 3 playoffs when NHS finished 8-2. The Raiders were the second seed and West Essex was the seventh seed last year.

The Raiders’ first game of this season also was against West Essex, which won the game 27-7, at West Essex.

West Essex will host fourth-seeded Parsippany Hills in the semifinals next weekend.
