Nutley HS girls’ soccer team defeats Cedar Grove to advance in ECT

NUTLEY, NJ – Samantha Gabrielle scored two goals and Maria Lopomo had a goal to lead the ninth-seeded Nutley High School varsity girls’ soccer team to a 3-0 win over 16th-seeded Cedar Grove in the second preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament on Oct. 17 at Father Glotzbach Field.

Camila Leon and Kristina Lopomo each had an assist and Jillian Desantis made one save for the Raiders, who improved to a 6-8 record and will visit No. 8 seed Millburn in the first round on Oct. 19 at 4:30 p.m. The winner will visit top-seeded West Orange in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 21.

The Raiders are looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to Millburn in the season opener on Sept. 7.
