Nutley HS girls’ soccer team falls to Montclair, 1-0, in double overtime in ECT semifinals

NUTLEY – The second-seeded Nutley High School girls’ varsity soccer team lost to third-seeded Montclair, 1-0, in double overtime in the Essex County Tournament semifinals doubleheader held at Belleville High School on Oct. 25.

The Raiders moved to a 13-3-1.

Montclair won it on a goal by freshman Audrey Smallman off an assist from senior Sophie Foster Palmer.

It was the second time Montclair has beaten Nutley this season, both in overtime. Montclair won, 4-3, in overtime on Sept. 26, handing Nutley its first loss.

In the previous day, Zoe Steck scored two goals to give her 100 goals for her career in the 6-0 win at Bergenfield. The UConn-bound senior became the program’s all-time leading goal scorer. Steck this season has scored 34 goals.
