NUTLEY, NJ (updated Friday Oct. 7, 12:25 p.m.) – Zoe Steck had two goals and two assists to lead the Nutley High School girls’ varsity soccer team to a 4-2 victory over Newark Academy at Monsignor Owens Field on Oct. 6 in a Super Essex Conference-American Division game.
Giulia Polewka and Samantha Gabrielle each had one goal and Isabella Gonsiewski had one assist; Jillian DeSantis made three saves and Alessandra Santoriello recorded four saves for the Raiders, who improved to an 8-2-1 overall record and 5-2 in the SEC-American Division.
In the previous day, the Raiders then lost to an undefeated Livingston team, 1-0, in Livingston in a SEC-American Division game.
Steck, a University of Connecticut-bound senior, has 89 career goals. She became the NHS girls’ soccer all-time leading goal-scorer in the 4-0 win over Verona on Sept. 23 at Glotzbach Field as she scored three goals to break the previous mark (79 goals) held by Victoria Kealy, a 2015 NHS graduate.
The Essex County Tournament seeding pairings will be unveiled on Oct. 11.
The first preliminary round must be played on or by Oct. 13 and the second preliminary round must be played on or by Oct. 15.
The first round will be held on or by Oct. 19 at the higher-seeded sites. The quarterfinals are Saturday, Oct. 22, at the higher-seeded sites.
The semifinals doubleheader will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Belleville HS at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The championship game is Sunday, Oct. 30, at Montclair State University at noon. It is a doubleheader with the ECT boys’ championship game at 2 p.m.
