NUTLEY, NJ – The fourth-seeded Nutley High School girls’ varsity volleyball team enjoyed a great run in the Essex County Tournament.
The Lady Raiders fell to top-seeded Verona, 10-25, 19-25, in the semifinals on Thursday, Oct. 27, at West Essex in North Caldwell.
Despite the loss, first-year head coach Jenna Dwyer was proud of her team’s effort.
“I am very proud of my girls and all they have accomplished this season,” said Dwyer, whose team moved to a 14-4 record. “Just getting to the semifinals in the county tournament itself was an accomplishment. Now we are excited and ready to finish out our season and start the first round of the state tournament!”
The Lady Raiders will host Columbia on Oct. 31 in the final regular-season match.
NHS, seeded 12th, will host No. 21 seed Millburn in the first round of the state Group 3 tournament on Nov. 2.
The winner will face the winner of No. 28 Toms River South and No. 5 Jackson Liberty in the second round on or by Nov. 4.
