Nutley HS softball team advances to state sectional tournament quarterfinals

NUTLEY – Senior Emily Holden fired a five-inning two-hitter, striking out 10 with no walks and had two hits and two RBI to lead the second-seeded Nutley High School varsity softball team to an 11-0 win over 15th-seeded Iselin Kennedy in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament on May 23 at Yanticaw Park.

Junior Lauren Hogan had triple, two RBI and a run; senior Alanis Concepcion had two RBI; senior Stefanie Ziemer had a run and an RBI; Melanie Conca scored twice and junior Samantha Eccheveria scored three runs as the Raiders won their fifth straight game to improve to a 22-5 record.

The Raiders will host seventh-seeded Matawan on May 25 in the quarterfinals. The semifinals are May 31 and the final is June 3.
Matawan defeated 10th-seeded Cranford, 4-1, in the first round.
