Nutley HS softball team defeats Hudson Catholic; will host Cedar Grove in ECT quarterfinals

NUTLEY – Emily Holden scattered six hits and two walks and struck out nine and went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk and a run to lead the Nutley High School varsity softball team to a 7-3 win over Hudson Catholic on Monday, May 9.

Cassie Angelo went 1-for-3 with two RBI; Stefanie Ziemer went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs; and Sydney Kunz and Danielle Pomponio each went 1-for-3 with a run for the Raiders, who moved to a 16-3 record.

NHS, seeded third, will host sixth-seeded Cedar Grove in the Essex County Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. If the Raiders win, they will play the winner of No. 2 seed West Essex and No. 7 seed Bloomfield in the ECT semifinals doubleheader at Mike Sheppard Sr. field at Ivy Hill Park in Newark on Friday, May 20, at 5 p.m.

It marks the third meeting between Nutley and Cedar Grove this season. The Raiders won both meetings with Cedar Grove in Super Essex Conference-American Division action. They won, 4-0, April 11, at Yanticaw, and 9-1, April 29, in Cedar Grove.
