NUTLEY – Sam Eccheveria went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run to lead the Nutley High School varsity softball team to a 3-2 win over Jackson Liberty on April 23 in Raritan.
The Raiders scored all their runs in the third inning to break a scoreless tie. Jackson Liberty scored two runs in the seventh, but the Raiders held on for the victory to improve to a 9-2 record.
Stefanie Ziemer went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run and Danielle Pomponio had a single and a run.
Emily Holden scattered six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk for the win.
In the Raiders’ previous game, Holden tossed a three-hitter, striking out 11 and walking one, and went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and two runs in the 7-1 win over Lenape Valley on April 19. Breanna DeMaio and Echeverria each went 2-for-3.
