Nutley HS wrestling team seeks another fine season with new head coach Mike DiPiano

NUTLEY – The Nutley High School varsity wrestling team, which will begin the season Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Brick Memorial Tournament, will be guided by first-year head coach Mike DiPiano, who replaces his brother, Frank DiPiano. Frank DiPiano stepped down last month after eight successful seasons, taking an administrative position at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark.

The Raiders last season won the Super Essex Conference-American Division championship and finished runner-up in the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament. The second-seeded Raiders lost to top-seeded Voorhees, 34-32, in the sectional final to finish with a stellar 21-4 record.

Mike DiPiano also is the NHS head girls’ varsity soccer coach in the fall and a NHS assistant varsity softball coach in the spring.
