Nutley HS football team defeats Chatham, 49-7, for fourth straight win

CHATHAM, NJ – The Nutley High School varsity football team won its fourth straight game with a 49-7 win over Chatham on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Chatham to improve to a 4-3 record.

Senior running back Nick Mainiero rushed for 201 yards on 17 carries, including an 8-yard TD run; senior running back Sam Abreu scored two touchdowns on runs of 18 yards and 25 yards; and junior quarterback Josh O’Neill threw three TD passes to lead the Raiders.

O’Neill finished 7 of 9 passing for 150 yards. He threw a 45-yard TD pass to junior wide receiver Vin Russo; a 20-yard TD pass to junior wide receiver Eli Acosta, and a 14-yard scoring strike to senior Frank DeMaio.

Sophomore running back Dante Contella also had a 25-yard TD run and finished with 54 rushing yards on three carries. Russo finished with two catches for 57 yards.

Senior wide receiver Wayne Wittmann had one catch for 31 yards; junior wide receiver Matt Durham had one catch for 26 yards; and senior tight end John McAloon had a two-point conversion.

The Raiders will visit Parsippany Hills on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. Parsipanny Hills defeated Orange, 34-28, Oct. 21 to improve to 6-1.
