ORANGE, NJ – D’Angelo Blackmand had 26 points, 16 rebounds, five blocks and four steals to lead the 17th-seeded Orange High School varsity boys’ basketball team to a 68-62 win over No. 28 seed Nutley in the preliminary second round of the Essex County Tournament on Friday, Feb. 2.

Henry Jean-Baptiste had 16 points and seven rebounds and Zanety Joseph had 10 points and five steals for the Tornadoes, who moved to a 7-9 record and will face either No. 16 seed Newark University or No. 29 seed North 13th St. Tech in the preliminary third round on or by Feb. 8. The winner will then visit No. 1 seed Seton Hall Prep in the first round on Saturday, Feb.10.

The Tornadoes were awarded a forfeit win over East Orange Campus in the ninth annual OHS Martin Luther King Classic after the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association ruled that East Orange used an ineligible player. East Orange had won that game on a tip-in at the buzzer.
