ORANGE, NJ – On Wednesday, August 1, the Monte Irvin Giants traveled to Boston, Mass. to participate in the 2018 Boston Urban Baseball Classic scheduled August 1 through 5.

The classic featured teams from Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Pittsburgh and New York; and provided a bunch of off-field activities for the players, including a College Fair & Showcase, Fenway Park Tour, Roller Skating Night and a BBQ.

On the field, the Giants were scheduled to play five games at UMass Boston. However, they finished 1-2, beating Pittsburgh Base 1 and losing to the New York Nine and Pittsburgh Base 2.

Both Saturday games, as well as the college showcase, were cancelled because of day long heavy rain.

“Our goal this summer was to accelerate the growth of our players, both as baseball players and student-athletes,” says Wally Boyett Monte Irvin Giants Founder and Program Director.  “The Boston trip did that. It provided a great opportunity to play really good teams from around the country, while putting our players in front of college coaches and admissions counselors from many Boston area schools.”

The Giants will conclude the 2018 summer season with a series of games against Club Liga Deportiva Hector Delgado from the Dominican Republic scheduled for August 9, 10, 13 and 14 in Orange.
