Orange HS baseball players earn All-Area honors

ORANGE – Orange High School baseball players Chrystian Walker, Jason Juarez, Joshua Fields and Shamil Roberts have earned Worrall Media All-Area honors this season.

Walker and Juarez are on the First Team; Fields is on the Second Team and Roberts made Honorable Mention on the All-Area.

Walker, a sophomore, batted .451 with 32 hits, 30 runs, 21 RBI and 14 stolen bases to make All-Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division First Team.

Juarez, a junior, had a .342 batting average and was second on the team in hits with 25. As a pitcher, he went 5-1 with 52 strikeouts and just 10 walks for one of the best strikeout-to-walk ratios in the state. Juarez also made All-SEC-Colonial First Team.

Fields, a sophomore who made All-SEC-Colonial Second Team, batted .338 with 23 hits  and Roberts, who made All-SEC-Colonial Honorable Mention, had a .295 batting average with 18 his and 17 RBI.

Roberts and Welington Jimenez were the lone seniors on the team. Jimenez finished with 18 hits, 18 runs and 13 RBI.

The Tornadoes, under head coach Wally Boyett, finished with a 12-11 overall record and 7-5 in the Colonial Division, including qualifying for the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament where they lost to eventual champion Cranford. It was the Tornadoes’ first winning season since 2012.
