Orange HS baseball team gears up for state sectional tournament

ORANGE – The Orange High School varsity baseball team qualified for the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament.

The Tornadoes, seeded 13th, were visit fourth-seeded Cranford in the first round on May 23. The winner will face the winner between fifth-seeded Summit and 12th-seeded South Plainfield in the quarterfinals on May 26. The semifinals are May 31. The final is June 3.

Shamil Roberts had two hits and one-RBI and Adam Tizio and Wellington Jimenez each had one hit and one-RBI in the tough 4-3 loss at Newark Tech in nine innings on May 17.

The Tornadoes defeated University Charter, 10-1, May 18, in Jersey City. Jimenez went 3-for-5 with two singles, one double, two-RBI and two-runs scored; Jason Juarez went 2-for-4 with two singles, four-RBI and two-runs scored; Chrystian Walker went 3-for-4 with three singles, three-runs scored and one-RBI and Roberts had a single and one-RBI.

OHS lost to Science Park, 21-7, May 20, in Newark to move to a 12-10 record. Walker went 3-for-3 with a single, two doubles, two-runs and one-RBI. Ezechiel Conserve went 1-for-3 with one-RBI and one-run and Jason Juarez went 1-for-2 with one-RBI and one-run.
