UPDATE: Orange HS baseball team is off to 4-1 start to season; will battle East Orange Campus in annual Unity Cup Game on April 18

ORANGE – The Orange High School varsity baseball team is off to a good start to the season, winning four of its first five games.

Jason Juarez pitched five complete innings, allowing no walks and three hits while striking out 12, to lead the OHS Tornadoes to a 10-0 win over Shabazz at Monte Irvin Field at Central Playground on April 5.

Welington Jimenez (3-for-3 with a double, triple, three-RBI and three-runs scored) and Chrystian Walker (3-for-4, two triples, two-RBI and a run scored) led the Orange offensive attack.

The Tornadoes fell to Bloomfield Tech, 5-2, April 6, at Monte Irvin Field. Moses Garcia went 1-for-3 with a run; Walker went 1-for-3 and Anderson Paul went 1-for-2 with a run.

Walker (two doubles, triple) and Juarez (double, two triples) each collected four hits and scored four times for the Tornadoes in a 20-2 win over Central at Weequahic Park in Newark. Shamil Roberts also scored three runs. Joshua Fields pitched four innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out eight.

Juarez tossed a complete game, allowing two walks and five hits, while striking out eight in the 1-0 win over Barringer on Monday, April 11, at Branch Brook Park in Newark. Jimenez scored the lone run of the game on an RBI walk to Garcia. OHS improved to a 4-1 record.

In the season opener, OHS defeated Lincoln, 10-9, April 2, in Jersey City.

Unity Cup Baseball Game is April 18 in Orange

The OHS baseball team will host East Orange Campus High School in the annual Unity Cup Baseball Game on Monday, April 18, at 4 p.m. at Monte Irvin Field at Central Playground. Prior to the game, the Tornadoes will visit Shabazz on April 15.
