ORANGE, NJ – Henry Jean-Baptiste had 19 points and Zahier Childs had 15 points, but the ninth-seeded Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team lost at eighth-seeded Barringer, 77-74, in the first round of the Essex County Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 11, in Newark.
D’Angelo Blackmand had 12 points; Wesley Lafleur had nine points; Mischael Noelvil posted eight points; Armand Jacques contributed six points and Latreil Wilson added five points for the Tornadoes, who had their seven-game winning streak snapped and moved to a 17-3 record.
In earlier action, the Tornadoes defeated Millburn, 47-46, Feb. 7, in a Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division game in Millburn. Childs had 16 points; Blackmand had 10 points; Rasheed Boyd had seven points; and Jean-Baptiste, Jacques and Wilson each had four points.
The Tornadoes received the No. 3 seed in the North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 state tournament and will host No. 14 seed Cliffside Park in the first round on Feb. 28. The winner will face the winner between No. 11 seed Iselin Kennedy and No. 6 seed Snyder in the quarterfinals on March 2.
