Orange HS boys basketball team falls to Newark Tech in ECT

ORANGE, NJ – The 17th-seeded Orange High School boys varsity basketball team fell at No. 16 seed Newark Tech, 64-60, in the first round (round of 16) o the Essex County Tournament, Feb. 9.

Elijah Thompson had 20 points; Rasheed Johnson had 12 points and Giovanni Peterkin had 10 points for the Tornadoes, who had their three-game winning streak snapped and moved to a 6-13 record.

Johnson scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds and Peterkin had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Tornadoes to a 49-46 win over Barringer, Feb. 5, in a Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division game. Hassan Hester had eight points and three assists and  Thompson had five points and five rebounds.

OHS received the No. 16 and final seed in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 state tournament that begins Feb. 26.
