Orange HS boys’ basketball team topples Hillside to move to 2-5

ORANGE – Mekhi Chester scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Andre Pete had nine points to lead the Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 46-43 win over Hillside in the West Orange Showcase on Sunday, Jan. 3.

Zahier Childs had six points and Zany Joseph and Latreil Wilson each had five for OHS, which improved to a 2-5 record.

The Tornadoes defeated Memorial of West New York, 59-57, in the first round of the Soaring Eagle Holiday Festival in Union City on Dec. 26. Joseph had 13 points, Richie Guillaume had 12 points, Childs had 12 points and six assists, Chester had 10 points and Henry Jean-Baptiste had six points and 10 rebounds.

Chester had 12 points and Jean-Baptiste had 10 points in the 55-46 loss to Union City in the semifinals on Dec. 28. Childs had seven points, Treyvon Bleasdell and Papouch Demonsthenes each had six points, Joseph had three points and Guillaume had two points.
Demonsthenes had 10 points and Wilson had eight points in the 46-36 loss to Passaic Valley in the third-place consolation on Dec. 30. Chester had six points and Pete had four points.

In earlier action, the Tornadoes lost at Newark East Side, 56-43, Dec. 22, and lost to Chatham, 70-46, Dec. 23.
