ORANGE, NJ (updated Tuesday Sept. 27, 3:53 p.m.) – The Orange High School varsity football team will look to snap a two-game losing streak when the Tornadoes return home to face Passaic Valley on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
The Tornadoes dropped a heartbreaking 20-14 decision to West Essex on Friday night, Sept. 23, in North Caldwell in a North Jersey Super Football Conference Patriot White Division game.
OHS fell to a 1-2 overall record. West Essex improved to 2-1.
The Tornadoes led 14-12 but West Essex won it when Brian O’Neill scored on a 40-yard TD pass from Zach Lemanski with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter. Vincent Scaglia added the two-point conversion run. It was O’Neill’s second TD of the game. He scored on an eight-yard run in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead.
But the Tornadoes immediately answered as senior Tyrese Harris returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a TD to tie it 6-6. The two-point conversion pass failed.
In the third quarter, sophomore George Crespo connected with Rasheed Boyd on a two-yard TD pass. Crespo hit junior Quasean Waite on the ensuing two-point conversion pass to give the Tornadoes a 14-6 lead.
In the fourth quarter, West Essex cut it to 14-12 on Scaglia’s seven-yard TD pass from Lemanski. The two-point conversion run failed.
OHS lost at Mahwah, 42-16, Sept. 16.
