Orange HS football team gears up for Nutley after blanking Barringer to get back on winning track

ORANGE, NJ – (corrected Tuesday Oct. 11, 11:03 a.m.) – The Orange High School varsity football team will host Nutley on Homecoming this Saturday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m.

The Tornadoes got back on the winning track in emphatic fashion.

Senior slotback Tyrese Harris rushed for a whopping 304 yards and three touchdowns on 36 carries and sophomore quarterback George Crespo rushed for two scores as the Tornadoes rolled to a 33-0 win over Barringer on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Schools Stadium in Newark to snap a three-game losing streak and improve to a 2-3 record. Barringer also is now 2-3.

Crespo had a three-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and an 11-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He also threw a two-point conversion pass to junior Quesean Waite.

Harris scored on runs of 5 yards in the second quarter, 64 yards in the third quarter and 40 yards in the fourth quarter.

Crespo completed three of seven passes for 41 yards and rushed for 33 yards on seven carries.

The Orange defense was led by senior linebacker Umar Jenkins, who had eight tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Other OHS defensive standouts were junior linebacker Nasier Givens with seven tackles and one interception; senior defensive back Dequan Battles with an interception; junior linebacker Mahkye Boswell with six tackles; and senior tackle Ezechiel Conserve and junior end Michael Pennix each with five tackles.
