ORANGE, NJ (update Monday, Sept. 12, 3:46 p.m.) – Senior slotback Tyrese Harris ran for two touchdowns and scored on a punt return as the Orange High School varsity football team rolled to a 53-6 win over Ferris in the season opener Friday, Sept. 9, at Bell Stadium in the debut of the North Jersey Super Football Conference.

Harris scored on runs of 4 and 20 yards and had a 25-yard punt return for a TD.

Sophomore quarterback George Crespo threw for two touchdowns, one to sophomore receiver Nyquee Hawkins for 17 yards and the other to senior slotback Dequan Battles for 20 yards. Battles also had a 10-yard TD run.

Askari Garner, a junior, had a seven-yard TD run for the Tornadoes.

Harris finished with 61 rushing yards on five carries.

OHS head coach Randy Daniel was proud of his team’s performance, but knows this week will be more challenging. The Tornadoes will travel to Mahwah on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. Mahwah is 1-0 after winning at Westwood, 24-6.

“This is going to be a big task,” said Daniel. “We can’t make mistakes. We have to play physical and everybody has to do their job; keep our composure.”
