Orange HS football team routs Ferris in the season opener

Senior quarterback George Crespo passed for 145 yards on four of five attempts and rushed for a team-high 129 yards on nine carries to propel to the Orange High School varsity football team to a dominant 47-6 win over Ferris of Jersey City in the season opener Saturday, Sept. 9, in Jersey City.

Junior receiver Nyquee Hawkins ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns; Divad Drakeford ran for 41 yards on four carries with a touchdown and Jair McClary also  had 41 rushing yards on just two carries with a score. Senior receiver Quasean Waithe had two catches for 76 yards and a TD.

Senior kicker Michael Pennix was 5 of 7 on extra-point kicks.

Senior linebacker Nasier Givens had eight tackles and a fumble recovery; senior linebacker Mahkye Boswell and senior tackle Wilgens Previlon each had five tackles and a sack; and senior defensive back Zekoriah Kirkland had three tackles for OHS.

The Tornadoes will host Mahwah in their home opener on Friday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. Mahwah is 0-1 after losing to Westwood, 41-21. Last season, Orange fell to host Mahwah in Week 2.  Mahwah went on to win the North 1, Group 2 state title and finished 11-1.
